FREIGHT LOSE OVERTIME BATTLE TO TULSA ON SATURDAY
Freight fall narrowly to Tulsa at home in overtime battle
FISHERS- The Fishers Freight hosted the Tulsa Oilers on Saturday night. After forcing overtime in a back-and-forth battle, Tulsa claimed the 45-44 victory after going for two and scoring in the final play.
FIRST QUARTER
On the first kick off of the game, Tulsa’s kicker Axel Perez scored a deuce, putting them up 2-0.
Mike Carrigan scored the game’s first touchdown after the Oilers held the Freight scoreless in their first possession. This put Tulsa up 9-0 after a good kick from Perez.
SECOND QUARTER
Freight newcomer Davis Black threw to Dominic Roberto for Fishers’ first touchdown of the game. After a good extra point kick from Calum Sutherland, the Oilers led 9-7.
TJ Edwards ran the ball in for the next score in the game. This put Tulsa up, 16-7 after another good extra point kick.
Jordan Davis caught a long pass in the end zone from Davis Black for the Freight’s second touchdown. This made it 16-14 in favor of Tulsa.
The Oilers made it 22-14 after a touchdown by Jerminic Smith Sr., however Perez missed the extra point kick. They extended their lead to 29-14 after an interception that they converted into a touchdown from Caleb Ramseur.
The Freight brought in Felix Harper at quarterback for the last drive of the first half. With fourteen seconds left in the first half, Harper found Isaiah Coulter for the touchdown. After a good kick from Sutherland, it was 29-21.
As time expired in the first half, Donnie Lewis Jr. intercepted the ball from Edwards. The Freight were stopped before scoring at the end of the half but prevented the Oilers from scoring.
THIRD QUARTER
As the Oilers approached the end zone on their first drive of the second half, Jaiden Roe intercepted the ball in the end zone. This gave Fishers the ball back.
Harper ran in his own touchdown at the midway point of the third quarter. After a successful extra point attempt, the Freight closed the gap to 29-28.
After a long drive by Tulsa, the Freight held them to a field goal attempt, however Perez missed the kick.
FOURTH QUARTER
Dominic Roberto scored the game’s next touchdown for the first Freight lead of the game. After a good extra point kick and Sutherland’s first deuce of the game, the Freight took a 37-29 lead.
Ramseur scored his second touchdown of the game with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter. The Oilers went for two to tie it up 37-37.
On the last drive in regulation, the Freight gave the ball to Calum Sutherland to attempt a field goal for the win, however the kick missed. This forced overtime.
OVERTIME
Fishers took the ball first in overtime and scored a touchdown on their first drive, courtesy of Roberto. After a good kick from Sutherland, the Freight took a 44-37.
With their backs against the wall, Carrigan scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion to win the game for Tulsa, 45-44.
