FREIGHT FALL 60-57 IN THRILLER IN ORLANDO
Fishers loses the back-and-forth battle to Orlando Pirates on the road
ORLANDO- The Fishers Freight visited Orlando for the first time this season. After a shootout style game, where both teams scored on almost every drive, it came down to the last four seconds where the Pirates walked it off with a touchdown to make it 60-57.
FIRST QUARTER
The Pirates started off with the ball but Jaiden Roe, in his return from injury, intercepted the ball to end their first drive.
Calum Sutherland attempted a field goal after the Freight drove the ball down field, but missed.
Quarterback Paxton DeLaurent scored first after rushing nine yards into the end zone during the Pirates’ next possession. After a good extra point kick, the Pirates went up 7-0.
Before the end of the first quarter, Felix Harper connected with Dominic Roberto who jumped into the end zone for Fishers’ first touchdown. They evened the score, 7-7.
SECOND QUARTER
Nyqwan Murray scored a touchdown next for the Pirates, however the extra point kick attempt was blocked, turning the ball over to the Freight.
On their next drive, Fishers went for a 23 yard field goal and Sutherland successfully scored with the kick.
The Pirates fired back with another touchdown for Pooka Williams to make it 19-10 after the kick attempt bounced off the uprights.
With under a minute to go, Dominic Roberto ran in his second touchdown of the game to cut Orlando’s lead to 19-16. The extra point attempt was no good.
On the next kickoff, Sutherland made up those points with a deuce. That added two points for Fishers, making it 19-18.
Very late in the first half, Orlando was able to add another touchdown when Thomas Owens caught a 22 yard pass from DeLaurent.
At the end of the first half, Orlando led 26-18.
THIRD QUARTER
JT Stokes kicked off the second half with a quick touchdown to pull Fishers within one after a good kick from Sutherland.
On the next Orlando drive, Pooka Williams scored his second touchdown of the game after rushing for 20 yards. After a good kick, the Pirates went back up 33-25.
Roberto scored his third touchdown of the game late in the third quarter to bring the Freight back within one, once Sutherland completed the extra point kick.
On the next kickoff, Sutherland completed his second deuce of the game to put the Freight up 34-33.
Before the quarter ended, Orlando was able to tack on another touchdown to make it 40-34.
FOURTH QUARTER
Fishers scored a touchdown again on their next possession. After another good kick from Sutherland, they went up 41-40 before extending that to 43-40 when Sutherland completed his third deuce of the game.
The Pirates answered back with a touchdown from Nyqwan Murray, his second of the game, early in the fourth quarter.
Roberto ran the ball into the end zone again to put the Freight up 49-47 before Sutherland tacked on another point with the extra point kick.
On the next possession, the Pirates scored another touchdown to go up 54-50. Nyqwan Murray ran for 37 yards to make that happen.
Freight quarterback Felix Harper ran the ball in himself for the game’s next touchdown to give Fishers the lead again. After a good kick, they led 57-54.
With four seconds left, Orlando walked off the 60-57 win with a touchdown pass caught by Teo Redding. The Freight had no time to come back and ultimately lost 60-57, moving to 5-3 on the season.
