FREIGHT WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT IN IOWA ON SATURDAY
Fishers claims their second victory over the Barnstormers this season
DES MOINES- The Fishers Freight headed to Des Moines, Iowa to take on the Barnstormers for the second time this season. The Freight claimed a 53-31 victory over them tonight, improving to 5-1 on the season.
FIRST QUARTER
Fishers struck first with a touchdown about halfway through the first quarter. Felix Harper ran it in himself to put the Freight up 7-0 after a good extra point kick from Calum Sutherland.
Iowa did not have the ball long before Fishers tacked on another touchdown. This time, Harper threw deep into the end zone to find JT Stokes and add six points.
After another good extra point and a deuce on the next kickoff from Sutherland, the Freight led 16-0.
SECOND QUARTER
Iowa scored their first touchdown of the game on their first drive of the second quarter when quarterback Ivan Corbin found the end zone. After the extra point kick went wide, the Freight led 16-6.
Isaiah Coulter had the Freight’s next touchdown on a pass from Harper to put them up 23-6 after the extra point.
Corbin rushed for 32 yards on the Barnstormer’s next offensive drive to give them another touchdown. That time, the extra point kick was blocked by Fishers. That made it 23-12 in favor of the Freight.
On their next possession, the Freight scored another touchdown courtesy of JT Stokes again. The kick was good and with time winding down in the second quarter, Fishers went up 30-12.
Less than a minute later, Corbin rushed in another touchdown for Iowa. Jonah Edwards attempted another extra point but it did not go in.
Heading into the locker room at halftime, the Freight were up 30-18.
THIRD QUARTER
To open the second half, Dominic Roberto ran in his first touchdown of the game to put the Freight up 36-18 before Sutherland tacked on the extra point too.
Corbin rushed for one yard on Iowa’s next possession to score another touchdown for the 0-4 team. The extra point kick attempt was no good. The Freight led 37-24 going into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
Iowa made it 37-31 with a rushing touchdown on their first play of the last quarter and a rouge on their next kickoff.
Roberto had his second touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter. After a successful two-point conversion attempt from Harper to Stokes in the back of the end zone, the Freight went up 45-31.
Neither team scored again until there was under a minute in the game, when Harper passed to Coulter for another touchdown for Fishers.
With a good extra point kick and a successful rouge on the next kickoff, the Freight took a 53-31 lead late in the fourth quarter.
Iowa had about a minute to attempt a scoring play but came up short, giving the 53-31 victory for the Freight.
